History
Harvest Pointe Community Church began in March of 2001 as a vision for a new church for the Charles Town area. Charles Town has many bible-believing churches and did not need just ‘another' church, but instead a church where the hurting, the lonely, the depressed and the needy could gather and all feel welcome; a church that was seeker-friendly and included contemporary Christian music, relevant teaching and a casual atmosphere; a church where everyone can come as they are and be given the life-transforming message that Jesus Christ loves them and died for their sins!
HPCC began as a seed planted by the Holy Spirit in the hearts of two families. They clearly saw the need to reach Charles Town (and the surrounding community) for Christ! The first meeting was on Sunday evening March 4, 2001. This meeting included a core group of three families, which quickly grew to seven. As the number of families continued to grow the need for more space became evident to all. Sunday Morning Worship and preaching was moved to Ranson Elementary School (6/10/01) and then to the Old Opera House (7/22/01) with a seating capacity of 322 (approx.). The official public launch of HPCC was on August 26, 2001. The weekend of the launch began with a kick-off Contemporary Christian Music Concert on Friday evening, August 24, 2001 at the Old Opera House. On Sunday, August 26, 2001 HPCC was able to celebrate what God was doing in Charles Town with a morning worship and preaching service, afternoon baptism and a fellowship dinner.
At the end of 2001, they negotiated a lease for the current location and had a Celebration Service in January of 2002 in their new building. As the church grew, God used those who were attending to reach the young people of Jefferson County and a large youth ministry developed. There were many singles and families from all different sectors of the population of Jefferson and the surrounding counties who started worshipping at Harvest Pointe and the church grew.
Since that time, God has truly blessed the ministry at Harvest Pointe and has moved in a great way in the lives of those who He has brought to Himself. Eight years after launching publically, Harvest Pointe votes to purchase 17.4 acres of land on Highway 51 between Charles Town and Inwood. Now, God calls us to make history. He calls forth our hope and commitment as we respond to new opportunties and challenges. Seeing what the Lord has done, and believing and trusting in where He would lead, it is our time to continue Harvest Pointe’s ministry and build our future together in faithful action. One day, another generation of believers will give thanks for our faith and witness and will be talking about what God did beginning on October 3, 2010 through us as we made an investment in the Harvest by funding our first permanent facility. There is a great sense of the mission that God has for the ministry of Harvest Pointe, and a great willingness on the part of the leadership and volunteers to be obedient to God's call to fulfill His purpose here and we thank God for what He has done and will do in the lives of each one of us here at Harvest Pointe.
