Leadership
OUR SENIOR PASTOR, JESUS CHRIST (Col. 1:18)
Jesus Christ is the Head of His church (Ephesians 1:22-23) and the source of all authority and power (Matthew 28:18). He is the Chief Shepherd who cares for His sheep (I Peter 5:4; John 10:1-18). He exercises this care by giving each local church a plurality of men to lead the church who are variously called “elders,” “pastors/shepherds,” and “overseers.” (Acts 14:23; 20:17-28; Ephesians 4:11; Philippians 1:1)
OUR ELDERS
The Elders are to be godly men who oversee the church. The Elders are given ultimate responsibility and authority to see that the church remains on a true course biblically, that its members are being appropriately shepherded, that the body is being fed through insightful and accurate biblical teaching, and that the life of the church is being well managed with the assistance of other competent and godly leaders. The elder team represents the highest level of authority at Harvest Pointe (Heb. 13:17, Acts 20:24,28).
• The qualifications for an Elder are set forth in the Scriptures (1 Tim. 3:1-7, Titus 1:1-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4). He is to be self-controlled, hospitable, able to teach, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money, not a recent convert. He has a good reputation with outsiders, is not overbearing or quick-tempered, loves what is good, is upright, holy, disciplined, above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, respectable, not given to drunkenness, manages his own family well, sees that his children obey him, does not pursue dishonest gain, and keeps hold of deep truths. An Elder demonstrates through leadership a commitment to the mission, vision and the core values of the church.
• Each man will serve for a three-year term. Upon conclusion of his term, he must function in a non-Elder role for at least one year before becoming eligible for Eldership again after fulfilling the above subscribed selection process. A man filling an unexpired term of two years or less may be eligible to waive this one year at the end of his term and serve an additional term subject to the above prescribed selection process. The salaried Elders serve as perpetual Elders during their tenure at HPCC. The Elders shall annually select a chair to direct Elder and congregational meetings. In the absence of the chair, the Elders will select an interim chair.
• There shall at all times be a plurality of Elders (Acts 14:23; Philippians 1:1). There shall be no maximum limit. At all times, the church shall seek to have at least as many non-salaried Elders as salaried Elders.
OUR DEACONS
At the discretion of the Elders, Deacons may be appointed to assist the Elders in the discharge of the church ministry. They are delegated the authority for the execution of ministry. Each Deacon is appointed by the Elders for a specific area of service for a specific term as determined by the Elders. Deacons must be members in good standing of Harvest Pointe Community Church and exhibit qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
